How Do Heat Pumps Work?
|
Heat pumps work on the same principle as your refigerator does. Basically, they
transfer free heat from one place to another (not air). The heat that
rises from the back of your fridge is coming from inside. An evaporator
coil extracts warmth from the air inside, and transfers it out into your
kitchen through the condenser coil in the back. The advantage of a heat pump is that it has no heating elements to burn energy, and with the flick of a switch you can reverse the effect so that in summer you can have keep cool.
